Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) has been a Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) certifying authority since 2017.

Certification is overseen by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and provides a way for outstanding Queensland independent school teachers to be recognised for their expertise and their impact on colleagues and students. Teachers applying for certification undergo a rigorous evaluation process that involves gathering evidence of their teaching practices, classroom observations and peer and student reviews.

ISQ has approached the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) and the Queensland Government to explore the opportunity for QCT to take on the role for certifying independent school teachers, aligning the teaching profession in Queensland to one certifying authority for HALT.

ISQ hopes to see QCT as the certifying authority for all schools, including independent schools, from 2024.

ISQ’s collaboration with QCT around the transition will be ongoing, and we will continue to communicate with members throughout the process to ensure you have the information needed to make the best decision for your teachers and your school.
