The ‘how to’ of engaging parents in their child’s learning and wellbeing – a concept known as parent engagement – is a big step closer thanks to the latest Engaging Parents in Curriculum (EPIC) report.

The EPIC 2023 findings have also been distilled into easy-to-understand resources designed to help ISQ member schools wishing to enhance their parent engagement knowledge and practice.

Independent schools offer a diversity of educational approaches and serve an equally wide range of students and families, from low and high socioeconomic backgrounds.

What Parents Want: An Independent Schools Queensland survey examines the decision-making process parents undertake when choosing an independent school, including cultural influences, sources of information, and the important factors that guide school choice. This report is the fifth in a longitudinal study, commencing in 1996. Previous reports are also available.

Engaging parents in their child’s education journey – and the powerful impact this can have on student achievement levels and wellbeing - is not a new concept in education circles. The findings from this report significantly add to the existing body of research around parent engagement and provide rich examples of effective parent engagement strategies and approaches at the classroom level. 

The wellbeing of school leaders and staff is critical for student success. Behavioural scientist Professor Cross and co-author Sarah Falconer of the Telethon Kids Institute present an evidence-based perspective on what promotes or erodes school staff wellbeing which is one of the first in Australia to make the links to student wellbeing.

Dr Natasha Ziebell and Dr Lucy Robertson, highly experienced researchers at the University of Melbourne, present a reflective perspective from our member schools with valuable insights into both the positives and negatives for staff and students and their families, of this unprecedented period of disruption.
